I’m waiting for the dealer to call me back on recall parts...
...but I’m due for an oil change. Like way overdue, last one was done last year but OLS still at 67%, since mileage isn’t that much from the change. Manual says 6 months max.
Just another 2 weeks on year old oil wouldn’t kill me, right... right? I’m lazy...

Dude you are fine. I’m not changing my oil until I get a new car.

I only get the oil in the M3 changed once a year. I wouldn’t sweat it.

Do you really put that few miles on it..?

Around 5,000 a year. That’s basically just on weekends.

has the oil level been maintained?
I would say you should be fine if the computer is still saying 67%. do you drive a lot of 5 mile trips or is it just a weekend car?

Contrary to popular belief, motor oil doesn’t expire or ‘time out’. You can run the same oil for a few years at a time, as long as you take it out for a long drive occasionally so any fuel that’s condensed and seeped into the oil has a chance to evaporate.

This is my Solstice... it’s been warm and dry in storage the past 7 months. But my daily commute is pretty short.

...well isn’t that your factory interval, anyways?

That’s the thing, I just pulled her out of storage.

Is it full synthetic?
I’ve always gone by mileage as opposed to time.

Solstice is factory fill dino juice, but I switched it to Pennzoil Platinum. It’s just a few bucks extra each jug after rebates.

I wouldn’t worry then.

Not totally true. The ph balance changes as additives break down and contaminants have a chance to settle. Viscosity changes over time too. Multi viscosity oils tend to act more like their startup at temperature as they age.

That being said, as long as the miles are low and it is a full synthetic oil you should be ok.

with synthetic I think you should be fine.
In the future I think you just have to drive more to... um .. to burn that moisture off. yes thats the reason. Its a tough perscription, but its the only cure.

Gonna pick up some ph testing strips and test that theory with some rotella that’s been sitting on a shelf for 10 years vs new stuff.

Yeah, I’ve had that instruction from my mechanic before. I did get a puff of white smoke on initial startup for a minute or so, and then everything back to normal. Figured that was water.
I’ll see of Krazie if up for more karts then I’ll get to use the car further, lol.

So I guess it’s a bad idea to stock up on (synthetic) oil? I usually keep 2 changes (I change annually) on hand whenever it’s on sale.

It should be shelf stable in sealed bottles for up to 5 years. Youre good bruh.

The breakdown is more dramatic resting in the engine than in bottle. But even the manufacturer has a suggested use by date.
